Congratulations, You’re a College Graduate…

Congratulations, you are a college graduate!!!!! But now what????

For all of us who have had the wonderful (or not so wonderful) experience of being away at college for four years and working our way towards the much coveted four year diploma, graduation day is bitter sweet. It’s the day that you become free from endless papers, dining hall food, and being that poor, broke college student…Some say it’s the day you become an adult. It’s also the day that you actually have to start using your OWN money, (that campus ID holds no weight in the real world) paying your OWN bills, and making your OWN decisions about the direction of your life.

This blog will be dedicated to figuring out what becoming an “adult” really means. Often times people don’t tell college graduates that the first couple of years out of college can be very scary. The definition of an “adult” is vague at best, your friends no longer live within five minutes of you, you have a job where you actually have to stay awake for 8 hours straight (even though some of us don’t!). Unlike college, there is actually a limit on the number of days you can not show up for work. Lastly, lets talk about the lack of a summer break! Who came up with the concept that “adults” don’t need summer vacation. On top of all this, it seems like everyone keeps asking you what you want to do with your life.

I know I have struggled, and still struggle, with figuring out what exactly it is that I am supposed to be doing. There is no class schedule that dictates where I am supposed to be at any given time during the week. There is no final exam that determines if I pass or fail. So yes I graduated from college and have a diploma, but now what? Lastly, I have had a real fascination with why people do or do not pursue their dreams. Each month I will have a feature called “When I Grow Up”. In the feature I will showcase someone who is at an advanced level in their career and find out what they wanted to be when they grew up. Find out if they are currently doing what they dreamed. If not, what stopped them from pursing their dreams.

As I journey through adulthood, I hope to bring you all along for the ride, and hopefully in the process help to make your dreams and mine a reality. I will share the pure comedy that has become my life since I started my transition from a “young punk” to being “grown”. I also encourage you to contribute stories, questions, and topics that you would like to see covered.
