I admit it, I am BOSSY (feels so strange typing that!!!). I have a really bad habit of stepping in to help people BEFORE they ever ask me for help. I feel like if I have or know something and I think someone needs it, it’s the right thing to do to step in and help them. It wasn’t until I had a conversation with a person who I respect very much, that I realized that my “helping” could come across a bit insulting. Some people take it as me not trusting in their ability to get things, or, that I feel I can do it better than they can so I just do it, as opposed to giving them the space to handle their own business. Now it was never my intention to hurt or insult people, but like they say “communication is the response you get” so I am working on it. Here are a few things that I took away from my conversation.
If you are like me, you stay on Google. So I thought something was up last night when I went to search for an image and the Google logo was blacked out, but I thought my computer was just doing the most, as it often does. So imagine my shock when I go on this morning to search for information for my trip next week and the logo is STILL blacked out. So of course, I Google “why is the Google logo blacked out?” lol, and here is what I found.
We all know that I love Oprah, def not a secret
. She is one of my professional role models so when I started reading posts about the girls from her academy going off to college I got so emotional, yes I know I don’t know them like that, lol. It seems like just yesterday when the story of her opening the academy in South Africa was a hot topic in the news. The scandal that followed with stories of alleged abuse at the school was heartbreaking for so many people, because it seemed like something with such good intentions was being tainted by the poor decisions of a few people! So I felt such joy when I read in the Associated Press that 72 of the 75 girls who started at the academy in 2007 are now in college! One of the things I have always loved about Oprah is the value she places on education, and this just seems like such a big win for everyone. For all of us who have gone to college, we know the price tag of a college education can be steep (shout out to everyone still paying off Sallie Mae), so I am glad that these young women will have the opportunity to follow their dreams without the financial burden that a lot of college students have to bear.
