When I Grow Up: Michele Ganeless, President of Comedy Central (Part I)

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Michele during my time as an assistant at Comedy Central. I started out as an assistant in Marketing and when her assistant was out of the office I would cover for her. I remember going into Michele’s office and asking her questions about life and work and everything in between. Even though I left Comedy Central, Michele has remained a mentor of mine, who I often go to for advice on work and trying to figure out this journey that I am on. So when I decided to relaunch “When I Grow Up” I couldn’t think of a better person to start the series with. A graduate of Northwestern University, Michele is a great example of how not having everything figured out right after graduation may not be such a bad thing! Check out part I of “When I grow Up” with Michele below.

Weekly Poll: Were You Impressed by the 2012 Grammy?

Weekly Poll

I am not usually a fan of the Grammy, but I watched this year because I wanted to see the Whitney Houston tribute. I did think the show felt super long, but  overall I enjoyed it. I am not going to lie, the Nikki Manaj performance had me clutching my pearls and in a state of confusion, but overall I think everyone did a great job considering that they were all probably still in shock about the death of Whitney Houston. I am surprised Jennifer Hudson was able to get through her performance without having a complete breakdown! But it’s your opinion that matters, so speak on it!

R.I.P. Whitney Houston

Whitney-Houston

Whitney Houston was such a big part of a lot of our childhoods, so it makes me so sad to write this post. R.I.P. Ms. Houston. Your voice touched and changed so many lives.

I Did It!!! Yacht Rock

You know I am always talking about stepping out of my comfort zone and trying knew things ( I also encourage you to do the same), so when I was told not to make any plans for 2/9 because we were going to Yacht Rock, I was so excited. Now keep in mind that I had no idea what Yacht Rock was, but I figured since I like large boats I would be just fine. Even when someone told me that we were going to be meeting at the Canal Room (a club in New York), it still didn’t click that I would not be spending my evening on a boat sipping expensive champagne. It wasn’t until I told a friend that I was going to Yacht Rock and his response was “oh man Yacht Rock is intense” that I thought I may want to research exactly how I would be spending my evening. In one word, Yacht Rock is an “Experience!” Yacht Rock is really fun a cover band and the crowd is as equally into the experience as the band is. People get dressed up in old school clothes and sailor hats. The music is really great music that you can really dance to. To top it all off, tickets to the show are only $10!!!! I’m really glad that I got to be a part of the experience and I would definitely go back and see them again. Check out a few pictures from the show and a video of them performing at a different show! The pictures are a little blurry because of the lighting, but hopefully you get the point :-)

Hey, Pick Me!

I currently equate the time caught in employment limbo after college graduation with being picked last to play kickball. When in-need of work is the time to do everything that you can to ensure to your teammates (people who graduated with you) and coaches (people who have the power to higher you) that you’re a good player. Instead of looking sad on the sidelines, you can get in the game and make them want you on their team.

Simply put, you need to act like you’re a kickball veteran with a laundry list of trophies.
