ButNowWhat.com works with Women of Substance

Have you ever met a woman of substance? ButNowWhat.com’s Watchen Nyanue and Yvonne Williams had the privilege of meeting many women of substance while hosting workshops for Les Femmes de Substance’s 2010 Women’s Retreat.  Les Femmes de Substance is an organization which was founded at Cornell University in 2003. The organization “strives to create women of substance through educational experiences and programs which build character and prepare women to become assets of society”.  Each year they host a Women of Substance Retreat to foster bonds and promote strength in unity amongst underrepresented minority women of Cornell University’s campus.

Les Femmes de Substance’s 5th Annual Women of Substance Retreat was based on the theme “A True D.I.V.A.: Distinction, Integrity, Virtue and Authenticity”. It was held at the Sheraton Hotel on the campus of Syracuse University on the weekend of January 29th, 2010 to January 31st, 2010. To help the young women of Les Femmes de Substance in their paths of leadership, ButNowWhat.com presented “All the Things I Didn’t Learn in Undergrad”, a workshop focused on career guidance and professional development. The workshop included activities and answers to questions about starting out in the workforce, such as “Is it okay to negotiate my salary on my first job?”. The members of Les Femmes de Substance left with the message that everyone has their own personal brand and we market ourselves all the time. ButNowWhat.com also shared how crucial networking is and the importance of creating opportunities when none are presented to you. Other events for the weekend included information on life after college and the keynote address presented by Amanda Johnson.

You can find pictures of the event below. www.ButNowWhat.com would like to offer thanks to Les Femmes de Substance once again. We were happy to offer guidance to you all as you make your transition from being women of substance on campus, to women of substance in the real world.
