Midnight Snack: Oh the Calories

With the New Year beginning, I am willing to bet that a lot of you have made New Year resolutions. I am also willing to bet that on many of those lists is the goal to get in better shape or lose weight. I had to admit to myself in November of 2010, that I had been doing the absolute most with the snacking and holiday parties and needed to get back in the gym on a regular basis! So, I started working out in the mornings, and Lord knows I am not a morning person, but I am excited to say so far so good. I even added a bootcamp class 2 days a week, and now I appreciate and ENJOY my mornings in the gym that are not bootcamp mornings, HA!

One of my friends knew that I was trying to get back into shape and he sent me this cool calculator that he found on about.com. You enter what you weigh, what you want to weigh, your height, and age into a calculator, and the calculator will tell you how many calories you can have daily in order to gain weight, lose weight, or maintain your weight. It even goes so far as to tell you how much weight you will lose or gain based on the amount time you do or do not spend exercising. Lastly, it tells you at what rate you will lose or gain the weight, and it measures in days.

At the end of all of the calculations, the site gives suggestions tells you the amounts of things (Carbohydrates, protein, fat) you should have in your diet to reach your goal in a healthy and sustainable way. I think losing weight is important, but knowing how to keep it off is equally as important. While I know that everyone’s bodies and metabolism rates are different, I think this calculator is a great, FREE starting tool that can help make you more conscious about how what you eat affects your body and weight. I started using it about a week ago, and I have to say it has helped me remain more conscious about how many calories I take in and what that means in relations to my goal of being healthier in 2011. There is a men’s CALORIE COUNTER and a women’s CALORIE COUNTER. Check them out and let me know if it helps you! HAPPY 2011
