Midnight Snack: Keeping up w/ the Joneses

Growing up I always remember my parents telling me it was very important to live within my means. At the time, I was completely fine with that because my means, were their means. When I started working, my dad would always say, spend less than you make and use your credit cards only for emergencies. What I heard was, spend and when I run out I could beg for money, and my credit card was for things that I could not afford. I know someone out there has had a similar experience.
