Midnight Snack: SCORE
With the economy as scary as it is, a lot of people are looking into starting their own businesses. I am a firm believer in working to make your dreams a reality, rather than being the key player in someone else’s dream. I do understand that being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, but if you have even the smallest desire, there is a great organization that can help you on your road to making your dream business a reality.
SCORE is a organization that is set up to help small businesses. They have a lot of free services that people can use to turn their ideas into profitable businesses. They offer free business counseling and there are free mentors to help during the different stages of the business development process. There are also workshops and seminars designed to help with personal and business growth.
Members of the organization are volunteers at different stages in their own careers, so they are there by choice not because they have to be. This creates a really healthy and productive environment. When a friend and I wanted to start a business, I contacted my local SCORE office and was able to get a mentor in the the area I was trying to break into. There are people from different professional fields who have built and sustained businesses of various sizes. There are local chapters of SCORE in most major cities.
If you are considering starting your own business, check out the SCORE website and see how they can be of service to you. Being a business owner is not easy, but SCORE can provide you with the tools you need to make smart decisions early on in the process.
Remember: You are never too young or old to become an entrepreneur.
