Chronicles of Productivity: The Journal, The Planner, and The Goals

After five or so months of being hassled by a good friend and fellow rising media mogul, Rhonesha Byng of Societystyle.com, after many talks about productivity with ButNowWhat.com creator and part-time mentor, Watchen Nyanue, and lastly after a fun read of Lovebrownsugar.com creator, Christina Brown’s post about vision boards, I decided to purchase and create three new items for the new year; a journal, a planner, and some goals/a vision board. Are you happy now Nesha? I am!

Sometimes, It’s the Questions That Matter…

If there is one thing that every college graduate can agree on and relate to is the amount of questions you have beginning your senior year of college and well into your first years out of school. There are the question that you have for yourself, but then there are all the questions that come from everyone else. “So what are your plans for after college?” “What are going to do with your life?” “How do you plan to use your major after you graduate?” “When can you start paying back your loans?” “When are you going to get a job?” and so on. At a certain point the questions can become so overwhelming that you may feel lost, overwhelmed and not really sure where you are supposed to begin because the picture appears so large. Are You That Somebody?

I remember when I got my first job, and around this time of the year, I discovered the semi hidden treasures that are company holiday parties. At year end, companies show their employees how much they appreciate what they have accomplished during the year, and vendors that people work with over the year want to thank them for doing business with them. I remember the seemingly endless invites and all the open bars and passed h’orderves I could stand. Now while I was a novice at the holiday party shuffle, I did try my best to get in the game and play it as best as I could. I would break out my calendar and plot out which nights during the month of December I would actually HAVE to cook a meal. I am happy to say that all these years later, my December hasn’t really changed all that much. Looking back on the years past, I have some really great memories that I have with my coworkers that took place at these parties, but I also have some “did that really happen” moments that if I can help you avoid I would love to.

When I Grow Up: Kendrick Reid, BET Networks

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wondered why it seems that some people get to live out their dreams, while others end up forgoing theirs. I have never been able to figure out the “thing” that drives some to pursue and make their dreams a reality. I thought it would be beneficial to talk to some people in the advance stages of their careers to see if they are living their dreams. The “When I Grow Up” feature will look at these individuals’ career journeys, as opposed to an examination of their current company. There is so much that we can discover by looking at the different paths people take to arrive at their current position in life. Join me as we take a look at the journey of Kendrick Reid, SVP/Executive Creative Director, Brand Strategy, BET Networks.
